This year, after a hectic schedule my hubby decided that we both needed time to recharge our internal batteries. We needed what we call a Staycation, our meaning, a local mini-vacation. Immediately I said yes, and he booked a suite at the newly renovated gorgeous Beaux Arts Decor, The Plaza Hotel.
Decadent but a delightful assortment of my favorite covered chocolate strawberries, and champagne awaited our arrival. The excellent view of New York from our suite is just breathtaking. We started our day with a little brunch at the Todd English Cafe, conveniently nestled downstairs of the hotel. Amazing little shops like little secret hideaways are located alongside the cafe. We mapped out our adventure, charged-up like a hurricane, we started our holiday journey.
Oh, Baby! It’s warm outside; but cold inside the windows of the iconic, Barneys. These window displays send spine-tingling chills down our backs. Beautiful Ice Sculpting creations, titled “Chillin’ Out”- Under Dennis Freedman and his team of artists and designers created the most spectacular window display thus far. Other impressive displays include Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales, Lord and Taylor. We stroll through the streets, overwhelmed by thoughts of the North Pole in a glittery winter wonderland.
After our walk, we decided to hail a horse and buggy ride to Marea, one of our favorite Italian Seafood restaurants located in Central Park. Chef Michael White has again outdone himself with the Fusilli dish that is out of this world! The fun continues as we head out to see the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular at Radio City. This show has been running for 82 years, so you know that it’s going to be just like the name, spectacular. The show ends, and it’s time to head back to for a nightcap. The Plaza has an elegant Champagne Bar we have a drink or two and head back to our room for a happy ending to a fabulous mini-holiday vacation.
Happy and Healthy New Year!
